ABOUT US
Over 40 years of experience in burns
Sunshine Foundation was established in 1981 to provide comprehensive services to burn survivors and people with facial disfigurement. In 1991, we set up Taiwan’s first community-based rehabilitation center entirely dedicated to burns. We rely on a multi-disciplinary team composed of social workers, occupational and physical therapists, psychological counselors, vocational counselors and social educators based in our regional centers, work stations and rehabilitation centers across Taiwan to deliver services in a community-based setting, either directly in our centers or through home visits.
Our services include:
-
Physical rehabilitation: Rehabilitation services include physical and occupational therapy, production of assistive devices, pressure therapy devices (including custom-made pressure garments) and facial prosthesis. Services are provided in our service centers and rehabilitation centers, as well as in our clients' homes, through home rehabilitation services.
-
Psychosocial counseling: Services include individual and group counseling, peer support groups, play therapy and sand play therapy for children, skin camouflage and social skills training.
-
School re-entry counseling: Services include advice and support to parents and schools to facilitate school re-entry process, as well as educational activities for classmates.
-
Vocational counseling: Services include vocational evaluation, job skills and occupational interest evaluation, job matching services and job placement services.
-
Social education: The goal of social education is to prevent burns by teaching about fire safety and first aid, as well as enhance public understanding towards people with facial disfigurement so that they may enjoy equal rights and opportunities. Sunshine Foundation carries out educational activities all year long across Taiwan in schools, communities, through the media and on Internet.
